Which Emotions Is Your Body Holding?

Check out the chart below and see what parts of your body tend to hold specific emotions and patterns of belief.
Picture
Most of us can easily relate to how too much stress and responsibility gives us sore shoulders, but look more closely and see what else your body might be signalling to you. Ring any bells?

The first step to wellness is awareness. Being aware means that you're not ignoring your body's signals until the pain becomes so loud it's impossible to ignore. (Been there, done that?)

The next step can be choosing to release the patterns creating the issue. This can be as simple as consciously affirming to release the held emotions, or it may require acceptance of past or present issues,  it may include  forgiveness of others and/or self, and it will usually always require establishing new patterns of thoughts and behaviours.   For example, saying to yourself, "I am enough. I love and accept myself exactly as I am!"

If this feels weird or difficult don't worry, it gets easier with practice!! Put reminders in your home as a cue to remind yourself of your new direction and thought patterns.

Another terrific way to let go of limiting beliefs and emotions can be through yoga, meditation, and body mind therapies, such as Jin Shin Do
® Bodymind Acupressure®.  You don't have to do it alone!!!

Start by trying this, "Every day and in every way I feel stronger and more balanced in my body, mind and spirit!!"

18 Awesome Reasons To Do Yoga!

2/1/2014

Are you wanting to increase your health, happiness, and overall fitness level?  Tired of feeling tired?  Want to feel more connected with your body, mind and spirit?

The practice of Yoga is an ancient and time honoured practice that is now enjoying a new popularity due to its numerous and documented health and wellness benefits.

And the great news is that yoga is for everybody ....  not just for people who can twist themselves into a pretzel!  That can mean that no matter what your fitness level is, where you are right NOW is the exact perfect place to start!!!

If you're new to yoga, you might want to start with a beginners yoga class, or even chair yoga if you have mobility issues.  Or, if you're more of a type A personality, there are more intense styles to suit your taste as well.  And of course, many of us are somewhere in the middle.  Today there are so many styles to choose from.  (After all, yoga has been evolving for 5,000 years!)

Did you know that even specific breathing practices, known as  pranayama ("extension of life-force/breath"), is just one component of yoga that has dynamic and medically documented health benefits?

Here are just some of the improvements and great benefits you will see from practicing yoga:
  • increased strength
  • increased flexibility
  • improved posture
  • improved joint health
  • increased spinal health   (One of my faves!  Yoga creates the movement needed for spine health ie: yoga supports the shock absorbers between the vertebrae which, if lacking proper movement, can herniate and compress nerves.  Movement is the only way through which vertebrae receives  nutrients!  A well-balanced yoga practice which includes back-bends, forward bends and twists, will help you keep your spine supple.)
  • bone strength/health
  • lymph circulation
  • supports proper digestion
  • heart health and lowers blood pressure
  • reduces inflammation
  • stress reduction
  • boosts serotonin /mood
  • burns fat (and yes, in more ways than just from moving and burning calories!)
  • stabilizes blood sugar cholesterol cortisol
  • calms central nervous system
  • clearer skin and that "yoga glow"
  • an improved sense of spiritual connectedness to yourself, others, and the universe
  • and another fave .... yoga provides a natural and healthy buzz!!!!!

If you still are not convinced that yoga might just be the ticket you're looking for to help improve your life, think of the amazing and relaxed like-minded people you'll meet at  yoga class.

Hope to see you soon!

What are Chakras?

Chakras are vital energy centers in the body that influence the our physical, mental and the spiritual self.  Although there are many chakras in the body, there are 7 main  energy centers that are of special importance.

Chakras, meaning "Wheels of Light", can be described as spinning wheels through which  vital energy flows throughout our body.

Blocked energy in any of our chakras can  lead to physical or emotional imbalance, which can in turn can lead to illness and disease.  Therefore, it's important to keep our chakras balanced and charged, to maintain a free and healthy flow of energy throughout our body on all levels.

Check out what each of the 7 chakras correspond to:

1.  Root Chakra  - Corresponds to our foundation and feeling of being safe and grounded.
  • Location: Base of spine near tailbone.
  • Emotional issues: Survival and security issues such as financial security,  safety, and food.
  • Colour- Red

2.  Sacral Chakra  - Relates to our capacity to accept others,  and influences our sense of belonging.  Ability to accept new experiences and to create.
  • Location: Lower abdomen, just below the navel.
  • Emotional issues: Sense of abundance, well-being, belonging, creativity, sexuality.
  • Colour - Orange.

3. Solar Plexus Chakra - This chakra is all about our self-confidence.
  • Location: Upper abdomen in the stomach area, below ribs.
  • Emotional issues: Self-confidence, self-esteem, ability to take action in the world. Also having a "gut" feeling.
  • Colour - Yellow

4. Heart Chakra - Influences our ability to love.
  • Location: Center of chest.
  • Emotional issues: Love for others and for self.
  • Colour - Green.

5. Throat Chakra - Our ability to communicate.
  • Location: Throat, specifically about 1 inch above notch of collarbone.
  • Emotional issues: Communication, speaking our truth and expression of feelings.
  • Colour - Blue.

6. Third Eye Chakra -Relates to our intelligence, our ability ability to imagine and to visualize and to our intuition.
  • Location: Forehead between the eyes. (Also called the Brow Chakra)
  • Emotional issues: Intuition, imagination, wisdom, ability to think and make decisions, psychic abilities.
  • Colour - Indigo (blueish purple)

7. Crown  Chakra- Also known as the "Thousand Petal Lotus",  it relates to our ability to  be spiritually connected to Source.
  • Location: The top of the head.
  • Emotional issues:  Our connection to spirituality, higher knowing, pure bliss. Oneness with all.
  • Colour - Violet or white

Do It Yourself Detox Acupressure

12/28/2013

Are you feeling a little sluggish from all the holiday goodies?  Then try this simple technique:

Press into the webbing between your big toe and 2nd toe, and you will likely feel a tender or downright painful spot. With your finger, press or gently massage this spot for about 2 minutes, and repeat this 2-3 times per day.  The point is called Liver 3 and is a major detoxification point on the body.  It helps with clearing the body of congestion, relieves allergic reactions, soothes red tired eyes and can even help with irritability.

And to help clear that sluggish feeling, energize your body, and get yourself back on track on a much deeper level,  give yourself a full acupressure session – feels cozy and relaxing, while heals at the same time.    To book a session now click here.
